During October I had the huge pleasure of speaking at The Future of Health Summit in Port Elizabeth, South Africa. Other guest speakers included Dr Eric Westman, Professor Tim Noakes, Cardiologist Dr Phillip Mills, Dr Peter Bond and Dr Margo de Kooker.
With a line up like this, I was absolutely terrified! And even more so to be sharing the stage with Dr Westman, whose bio reads:
‘Associate Professor of Medicine at Duke University Health System and Director of the Duke Lifestyle Medical Clinic. Currently the President of the American Society of Bariatric Physicians and a Fellow of the Obesity Society and the Society of General Internal Medicine. In 2010, was named the American Society of Bariatric Physicians’ “Bariatrician of the Year” for his work in advancing the field of obesity medicine as well as the Society.’
Uhm…. yes and then there was me, no doctorate, masters or even honours degree, just a passion for sharing this message.
I learnt so much from these incredible individuals, and from the whole experience. I am so grateful to have been a part of it.
Massive thanks to Dr Margot de Kooker for organising the event, Old Mutual and The Nelson Mandela Business Chamber for sponsoring the event.
